International Service TeamInternational Service Team

As well as being a fantastic opportunity for young people, the event can be a hugely rewarding opportunity for adults in Scouting too, as well as great fun! The International Service Team work directly for the Jamboree organisers, although they are part of the UK Contingent. They are the people who deliver the Jamboree on a day-to-day basis, in other words they make the Jamboree happen. IST from all over the world work in international teams to do everything on-site, from delivering programme, to serving in shops, to washing up and emptying bins. But no matter what job you are given, you can be sure of a great time, making new friends for life and experiencing the wonders of a World Scout Jamboree first hand.

Already Selected?

Congratulations to all those 500 IST who have already been selected for a place. It was great to see lots of you at the Walesby Gathering in July. Below is more information which you may find helpful.

Travel Options

After hearing lots of weird and wonderful ideas about how people are planning on getting to Sweden. Byron has produced the attached “IST DIY Travel” document. This may help you if you are considering the own travel option.

Making the decision on Travel

As those who were at Walesby will know, the need to gather travel options from IST members is becoming increasingly pressing. However, we have decided to extend the deadline by one week to allow greater time for post event discussions to develop.

Therefore, we ask that everyone informs us of their travel decision by 9am on Monday 19th July. You should do this by logging on to www.scouts.org.uk/istoption. If you already signed the paper list at the weekend, there is no need to repeat the process. However, if you wish to change your mind, this is your final opportunity to do so.

Spontaneous Activities

How do we, as a Contingent, contribute to the Jamboree? One way is to provide a “spontaneous” programme activity. As IST members, we need you to help do this! As per Clive’s presentation from the weekend, I have attached the Spontaneous Activities application form.

If you have something to offer to the Jamboree, get this form back to us by 31st August 2010. We will pass the best ideas to Sweden, who will then be in touch with the Crème de la crème to discuss the options. Take charge of your Jamboree experience!

Registration Update

A huge thank you to all those people who queued up to register with the online database. For those who were not at Walesby, or who were unable to register, we will be adding your role to the system over the summer. This is the same Membership Management System used by The Scout Association more widely.

If you registered at Walesby:

•    The key priority is to check your contact details. There are on the “personal” tab.
•    Over the coming weeks we will perform a standard membership check with either The Scout Association, or Girlguiding UK. Following this, you will see the IST role change to “Full” status in the “Roles” tab. This will give you access to add further details. We will contact you again about this in due course.

If you did not register at Walesby:

•    We will create a Scout membership record for you and/or add an IST role to this record.
•    You will then be able to log into the online system and update you contact information.
•    As above, over the coming weeks we will perform the membership check and upgrade your role.

More information about the online system can be found in Jon’s presentation from the weekend.

Payment

A quick reminder that the next deadline for second instalment of the IST fee is 31st July. The amount is £250. You should pay this online at http://www.sbuk.org.uk/info.centre/catalog.php?cat=257 or post a cheque payable to “The Scout Association” and Posted to UK Contingents, The Scout Association, Gilwell Park, London, E4 7QW. Note that you should write your name on the back of any cheques

If you are unable to meet the next deadline, it is always better to tell us than not. If you are worries, email uk.contingent@scouts.org.uk and we will discuss the options.

To clear us some confusion, when paying online, you will be asked to give your name on two separate screens. In the first instance, add the name of the IST member. This information come direct to Headquarters and means we can identify you. Further on in the process, you will be asked to add card details. At this point add the name of the person actually paying.

Finally, if you are in contact with any Second Wave IST, they have a slightly different payment schedule to allow for the shorter time frames involved.

Second Wave

So far we have invited 93 new people to join the IST. As yet they are not on the Who’s Who list as they have been asked to confirm their places by sending us their deposit. However, will will be circulating their names in subsequent communications. I’m sure you will look forward to welcoming them onto the team.

Social Chairs and Social Secretaries

On the attached Who’s Who list we have included the names and email addresses of all the confirmed Social Chairs and Secretaries. These are the people who were elected, selected, nominated, persuaded to stand over the weekend. We will update this list over the coming weeks.

These people are available to support the social aspects of Jamboree preparations. They will help to arrange local events and gatherings to try and build up a sense of togetherness before the main event next year. We are keen for the boundaries between regions to be fluid and there is no reason not to get involved in activities across the country.

Also, note that the SOCIAL Chairs and Secretaries are just that. They are not responsible in any way for the management of the IST. They are given the same information as all other IST and you should not contact them with direct questions about the Contingent as a whole.

2nd Wave Applicants

Some 2nd Wave applicants who attended selection at Walesby in July have already been selected! This is great news, and means you can scroll back up the page and read the bit about "already selected" IST. The only difference is that you have a different payment schedule in the Supporting Documents area at the bottom of this page.

For those who haven't been selected yet and are attending selection at Gilwell Park on 3rd October: read on...

The final selection event will take place at Gilwell Park on Sunday 3rd October 2010. Some of you have already registered for it and we look forward to seeing you there.

For those who, for a variety of reasons were unable to attend Walesby, thank you to those who let us know. We are still happy to hold your place for Gilwell. However, we would like you to re-register online at www.scouts.org.uk/istsecondwave. The deadline for you to express interest in the Gilwell selection event is Friday 6th August 2010.

When registering your attendance at Gilwell, you also need to select your travel option which you will use to get to the Jamboree should you be selected. More information on the two travel options can be found below in the ‘Money Matters’ document. Details of the payment schedule for these respective travel options can also be found in the same document. Also below is a document outlining the benefits of selecting Option B (without transport) and a variety of ways of getting there (IST DIY Travel).

We will be sending more information to those of you who have registered towards the end of the summer. In the meantime, enjoy the sun!
